Waterlase iPlus—the best complement to achieve harmony in aesthetic dentistryAesthetics is a philosophical branch concerned with beauty, art and taste, encompassing the creation and appreciation of beauty. Within modern dentistry, aesthetics has become a crucial aspect of treatment, as it encompasses the desired outcomes and harmony of all elements in restorative dental procedures, considering an end goal of beautiful results. Analysing each component is essential for successful results. This lecture will discuss the elements I consider most impactful in my practice as an aesthetically minded dentist, the implementation of Er,Cr: YSGG laser technology in particular.
The pursuit of harmony and aesthetics in dental restorative treatments is vital for achieving a pleasing arrangement of all individual parts. Aesthetics involves achieving balance among the teeth, soft tissues, lips, and the overall facial structure. Throughout dental procedures, the administration of anesthesia plays a significant role in enhancing patient comfort and facilitating successful outcomes as planned.
However, a challenge arises when evaluating the final results, particularly regarding perfect harmony, as muscular movements are temporarily impaired, making it impossible to observe the desired outcomes, especially when assessing the relationship between gums and teeth. Employing Er,Cr: YSGG laser treatment provides an invaluable opportunity to overcome this obstacle by performing aesthetic crown lengthening without anaesthesia in many cases.
This enables me, as a dentist, to observe and appreciate the achieved harmony without the numbing effect, ensuring that my aesthetic goals are met. Consequently, the final results are aesthetically pleasing, aligning with the desired outcomes.
Learning objectives:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the principles of aesthetics in dental restorative treatments, specifically focusing on achieving harmony among teeth, soft tissues, lips, and the overall facial structure.
- Explore the challenges posed by traditional anaesthesia methods in evaluating and observing the final results of aesthetic dentistry procedures, emphasizing the importance of assessing the relationship between gums and teeth.
- Develop proficiency in utilising Er,Cr: YSGG technology for aesthetic crown lengthening procedures without the need for anesthesia, enabling precise observation and assessment of achieved harmony, ultimately leading to aesthetically pleasing outcomes aligned with the desired goals in aesthetic dentistry.
